Samsung fix fingerprint security flaw on Galaxy S10 and Note 10 - update your phone now

Make sure to download the security patch now

Two of Samsung's latest flagship devices, the Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10 5G, the Note 10, Note 10+ and Note 10 5G have been affected by a security flaw that means anyone could unlock your device and access its contents.

Thankfully, Samsung have now issued out a security patch to fix this issue once and for all and it should now have rolled out to almost everyone's affected device. If you haven't applied the fix, it's recommended that you do so as soon as possible.

The issue is due to the Infinity O display and the Ultra-sonic fingerprint sensor / scanner that is housed inside the phone, as the S10 and Note 10 don't have an actual fingerprint scanner on the phone like the S9 does, for example.

The major security flaw happens when some third-party screen protector is applied to the phone and then when they press their finger onto where the sensor is, they can then unlock and access the mobile phone. Series stuff.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e is not affected because the fingerprint sensor is built into the power on/off / sleep/wake button on the right hand side of the phone.

All of Samsung's Galaxy 10, S10+, S10 5G, Note 10, Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G's come pre-installed with a screen protector when you get the phone out of the box for the first time. So, if possible, if the screen protector doesn't become damaged, keep the official screen protector on and don't purchase and unofficial one.

The security update shows up as a Biometrics and Security upgrade notification in the notifications centre of your phone that cannot be cleared until tapped on.

To update the biometrics and security on your phone, tap the notification, follow the notices and instructions, tap 'accept'. Once the update is complete, restart your phone.
