Older models with a Retina Display are being recalled
Let's be clear here, not every single 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Displays are being recalled, only a limited number as Apple say the batteries could catch fire, meaning they pose a health and safety risk.
According to technology website, The Verge, Apple says the affected models are the ones sold between September 2015 and February 2017.
What happens if I'm affected?
First off, you need to check if you have the model that is being recalled and see if it's part of the recall program.
To check, you need to know the serial number of your MacBook Pro. To find your product's serial number, go to 'About This Mac' in the Apple menu. (click on the Apple logo in the top left hand corner of the screen).
In 'About This Mac', the product you're looking for will say: “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)”.
Once you have found the serial number of your MacBook Pro, please check if you've been affected by clicking here. The link takes you to the '15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program' on Apple's website.
It's the model with all the ports, not the ones with just USB-C ports and connectors. The Apple logo on the lid of the MacBook Pro also lights up, as was the case of the older MacBook Pros.
If your device is eligible under the repair program, Apple will kindly replace the battery in your MacBook Pro free of charge. Note, though, Apple's website states that 'service may take 1-2 weeks.' This quite a while to be without your MBP but we guess safety comes first.
