Sony has announced its PlayStation 5 event has been cancelled for the time being

Sony, who owns PlayStation, has announced it has decided to postpone its PlayStation 5 launch event, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday 4 June 2020.

The statement, which was also posted on its US and UK Twitter channels read that "We do not feel that right now is a time for celebration".

Whilst the statement didn't mention the current tragedy in the US over the killing of George Floyd, the unarmed black man who was murdered by police, the statement went on to say: "We want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard".

During the event, new games that are in development were supposed to be unveiled, ready for the console's release this week.
