Apple's new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro now features trackpad support
Remember the Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad Pro that's compatible with iPad Pro 12.9‑inch (3rd and 4th generation) iPad Pro 11‑inch (1st and 2nd generation) Well, that all seems a bit old hat now when you checkout the new keyboard on the block.
Apple's new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro is arrived and it blows the Smart Keyboard Folio out of the water.
First off, the Magic keyboard attaches to iPad Pro magnetically and it floating cantilevered design for smooth adjustments of the viewing angle up to 130 degrees, so you can adjust it to suit your needs.
The keyboard, much like the Smart Keyboard Folio, is full size so you're not being provided with a small, half-baked keyboard here, you're getting the real thing. The Magic Keyboard is also backlit so you'll be able to see all the keys in dark environments without needing to turn a light on.
The keys are delivered by a scissor mechanism and its key travel is 1mm meaning you'll have a responsive typing experience using the Magic Keyboard. The main attraction of the Magic Keyboard that the Smart Keyboard Folio doesn't offer is a trackpad. And trackpad support is now supported in iPadOS 13.4. You can click anywhere on the trackpad, so you're not confined to only one or two portions where you can click the mouse like on a traditional laptop trackpad.
Magic Keyboard also features a USB-C passthrough port for charging up other devices, made possible thanks to the built-in battery the Magic Keyboard offers, This means the USB C port on iPad Pro can be used for connecting up external displays or hard drives. A clever move from Apple there.
The trackpad on the new Magic Keyboard supports the same multi-touch gestures that you can do on iPad. For example, pinching with four fingers to return to the Home screen, meaning you'll never have to place a finger on iPad Pro again if you don't want to.
Magic Keyboard will be compatible with the 2020 iPad Pro and iPad Pro 12.9‑inch (3rd and 4th generation) and iPad Pro 11‑inch (1st and 2nd generation). We've also been informed by Apple via Live Chat that it'll work with the 3rd generation 11" iPad Pro.
Because it's Apple, Magic Keyboard isn't cheap. For the 11" iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard will cost £299.99 and for the 12.9" version, it'll set you back £349.00. Soon as we can't go to the shops at the moment, you can purchase the Magic Keyboard and the Smart Keyboard Folio direct from Apple, here.
