Instagram expands its trail to hide like counts on posts across the globe

The trail has now expended to more countries

We have reported on this previously when photo-sharing app Instagram was hiding the like count on photos in seven countries.

Now, though, Instagram, who are owned by social media giant Facebook, have announced that the trail is going global across the globe. It'll also be expanding right over to the United States.

In a tweet from their official Twitter account @instagram, they say:

"While the feedback from early testing in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand has been positive, this is a fundamental change to Instagram, and so we’re continuing our test to learn more from our global community."

When you open up the Instagram app, you'll see a message at the top of the page to tell you that you're included in the test, as the screenshot above shows. You'll be able to see the like counts on your own posts but not for other people's posts.
