If you have an iPhone 5 or older, upgrade its software today - here's why

You may remember us reporting on this on October 20 and if not, you can read the article here.

Users should receive a notification on their iPhone urging them to upgrade their iPhone to iOS version 10.3.4. This is the highest version of Apple's iOS software that iPhone 5 will support. If you have already upgraded to the version, there is no need to worry. If not, we urge you to update it before midnight tonight as you'll risk loosing internet access, according to Apple.

You will also loose GPS location based access and your iPhone may stop displaying the correct date and time, as well as not being able to fetch new emails, accessing the App Store or backing up data to iCloud.

To make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 10.3.4, double check the version you're running:

1. Open the 'Settings' app

2. Select the 'General' tab and then tap 'About'

3. Next to 'Software Version', iOS 10.3.4 should show. If not, you should have the option to update the software to this version.

If the software update isn't done by midnight tonight, you'll have to plug your iPhone into a Mac or PC, backup and restore and then perform the software update as the normal wireless over-the-air updates won't work because Wi-Fi connectivity will not work.
