If you use a very old iPhone or iPad - Apple urge customers to update them now

Apple urges customers to update their iPhone or iPad - if you have a very old one - to the latest software update that your device can take.

If you don't update your device, important functions such as incorrect date and times showing, the loss of GPS functionality and certain apps will cease to work or not work correctly as you'd expect them too.

Only some devices can be fixed with an update to the latest software version that your iPad or iPhone will go to, while others will just sadly be stuck with the issues.

The reason why you have to update your old iPhone or iPad is because of the GPS rollover bug - your device relies on the Global Positioning System (GPS) so the correct date and time can be displayed.

According to The Sun, Apple says its devices will not be affected until midnight on November 3rd 2019.

A GPS rollover last happened in 1999 and again this year, in 2019. Once a counter, stored in binary digits, reaches 1023, it then rolls back to 0 and starts counting all over again. Bugs happen in the software because it doesn't account for the rollover, thus creating the bug and affecting the date, time and GPS location issues for your device.

If you have an iPhone 5 or iPad 4th gen (Wi-Fi + Cellular), make sure it's updated to at lest iOS 10.3.4 before 3 November.

If you have an iPhone 4S, iPad mini 1st gen (Wi-Fi + Cellular), iPad 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular (CDMA models only) or iPad 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular, make sure it is updated to iOS 9.3.6.

Older devices not mentioned above will receive the bug but they cannot be updated to resolve the issue.
