Facebook CEO plans to merge the platforms
Messaging app WhatsApp and photo sharing app, Instagram, are both owned by social media network, Facebook.
This was first published in The New York Times and they have said this merging project is a personal one of Facebook Founder and CEO: Mark Zuckerberg. The New York Times have also stated this project is already underway and is expected to be completed at the end of 2019, or early 2020.
You don't need to worry, though. Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger will remain as stand-alone applications once the merging process has finished.
The merge will mean that users who use the WhatsApp platform but don't have a Facebook account will be able to message a friend of family member who's on Facebook, for example.
WhatsApp and Instagram have been able to run and their own separate companies. Last year, the CEO of WhatsApp and the CEO of Instagram both left their companies.
As all these companies are owned by the same, the integration of all of the apps being able to communicate with each other, could mean that the same advertising is shown, making shops and markets making more money if people click and buy.
