WhatsApp will stop working on Blackberry & Microsoft / Lumia handsets running 8.0 and older
WhatApp, owned by popular social media site Facebook, is ending support for some devices in the New Year, it has been revealed.
What devices are affected?
As of 1st January 2018, support for two smartphone makers has ended today.
The devices that have been affected are: Microsoft / Nokia Lumia handsets running Windows 8.0 or older and Blackberry OS and Blackberry 10 devices.
Blackberry has had a great ride with the messaging app as for a very long time, owning a Blackberry was 'the thing'.
Also, support is ending for iPhone's running iOS 7 and Android phones running 4.0.
What does this mean?
At some point during the New Year, the app may just stop working - without warning. You also will not be able to create new accounts or re-verify accounts that already exist.
Currently, the smartphone market is out-blown by Apple iPhone and Android phones, so WhatsApp will be focusing on those from now on.
To continue using the service, and getting support and bug fixes, you'll need to upgrade your device, if you own one that is affected.
On WhatsApp's own website, they recommend upgrading in order to use new features and getting support. When you have a new device that'll support WhatsApp, just install the app and log in.
They also state that WhatsApp can only be used with one number on one device at a time. When transferring chats, it is not possible to do this between platforms, but you can send yourselves all chats in an email.
